Off to GenCon 2010 and Torchlight 2: calm down people

But before I go.

People...calm down about Torchlight 2. Yeah yeah Torchlight 1 was fun and all that but only because we haven't had a Diablo 2 fix in so long.

Suggestion? Reload Diablo 2 and shut up. Then sit back and wait for Diablo 3 to break all the sales records and awards that Starcraft 2 and Diablo 2 got.

Jesus...one new game "announced" and already bloggers everywhere are jumping on the anti Blizzard bandwagon. Give it a rest.

Torchlight 1 was restricted, boring and bland. A pure Diablo 1 clone that did not even step outside the pretense it was totally ripping it off. Got bored with it as it only made me want to play Diablo 2 again. That jungle level in Torchlight with the blowdart guys? Guess what...ITS ALREADY IN DIABLO 2 yet more vast and done much better. And the graphics of Torchlight and camera control SUCKED. I also don't need cute anime cats and dogs to carry my crap back to town. Save that shit for Free Realms.

Before you post stupid things like "I would much rather pay for Torchlight 2 than Diablo 3" take a common sense pill for the love of God. Every time a Blizzard clone game comes out people shit and cry over their soapboxes then Blizzard releases the sequel to the game that was cloned and it demolishes everything published before it. Yet somehow bloggers and their ilk get off on ripping Blizzard and having their faithful followers agree with them and make asinine comments that have NO firm backing or solitary single dose of common sense whatsoever. Torchlight 2 will be "neat" but it will be no where NEAR the insane polish, gameplay, look, depth and overall content that Diablo 3 will have.

Hudson out.

Stay tuned for convention updates.

  1. Agreed. I too am very tired of hearing all the whining and moaning about the "evil" Blizzard, and how all of it's games are "repeats" of past triumphs. My favorite recent complaint has been about Starcraft 2's Campaign being split in three parts and not having LAN. The level of complaining reached a scale only matched by the absurdity (and ineffectiveness) of the reaction against Infinity Ward's decision to not have dedicated servers for MW2. Glad to see that hard work is still rewarded and that both games have been hugely successful. And knowing Blizzard's track record of quality work, Diablo 3 will be more of the same.

  2. Diablo III will undoubtedly be a success and has a very high likelihood of being an excellent game. I am certain I will buy a copy.

But if Blizzard is going to forgo LAN play and require people to log into Battle.net to play even the single player game, then they had better fix Battle.net since it has long be less battle and more lag.

Unfortunately, we haven't seen anything new on the Diablo front for 9 years. And the last bit was the expansion to Diablo II which gave us features like a boost to 800x600 resolution. That was kind of cool in 2001, but the pixels look huge and awkward on monitors today.

Besides which, I've played that game to death. I want a new story.

So pardon me if I am excited to see a game in the same genre made by the SAME PEOPLE who made Diablo and Diablo II that might actually ship in the next year. You think they might know something about the genre? You think? You think?

And you can call it Blizzard bashing if you like, but you cannot deny that they have let the Diablo franchise languish. It was hugely popular, and they haven't shipped anything new in 9 years. They could have done another expansion to bring the game a little closer to current technology or to make mod-ing easier to do and maintain. They chose not to do this.

So you go back and play Diablo II. I've been back enough times over the last decade. There isn't anything new to be had there.

Instead, I'll go play Torchlight and, likely, Torchlight II before Diablo III ever sees the light of day.

What do you expect man? It's the same thing they did with Starcraft. But when they put a sequel to it there will be no match on the market for it.

Besides, Din's Curse has more creativity in its little pinky than Torchlight ever had in the entire game. Give it a look see. At least that developer came up with new concepts and random world events.

Torchlight....still unimpressive to me at least
